BEEF to the drivers at the top of Whiffin Spit Road who treat the stop sign like a suggestion. Cutting off traffic only to crawl along at a snail’s pace isn’t just rude—it’s dangerous. If you’re in such a rush, the least you can do is follow the speed limit. Better yet, take a breath, use some common sense, and wait the few extra seconds for traffic to pass safely.

BOUQUET to the hardworking youth who traded screens for shovels and gloves to help clean up Woodland Creek Park on Earth Day. It was heartening to see so many school kids stepping up to care for our planet. Hats off as well to the Sooke staff and all the groups at the weekly market who shared ideas on how we can all make a difference. A well-deserved round of applause for everyone involved!

BEEF to those using weed and moss killers this time of year, harming insects, pollinators, birds, and small animals in the process. A lush lawn isn’t worth the damage to local wildlife. Go ahead and fertilize—but let’s think twice before spraying chemicals that do more harm than good.

BOUQUET of non-invasive plants to the District of Sooke for launching its FireSmart initiative and offering Saturday broom and yard debris drop-off through May at the Kaltasin yard. It’s a smart move—helping residents protect their homes while keeping invasive materials out of local composting facilities. I’m off to gather the cedar debris around my yard now that there’s a convenient and responsible way to get rid of it!

BEEF to the voting public. By the looks of recent results, we’re in for more mayhem, dysfunction, and political gamesmanship. Sadly, it seems the worst is yet to come—buckle up, Sooke.

BOUQUET to everyone involved in Edward Milne school’s “Catch Me If You Can” production. What a fantastic show—full of talent, energy, and heart. A huge thanks to the cast, crew, orchestra, costume designers, and tech team for putting on such an enjoyable and memorable performance.

BEEF to B.C. Ferries and the provincial government. A change in management was supposed to bring improvements, but we’re still seeing breakdowns and ferries needing tugboat assistance. This is progress? Islanders deserve better.
