Chemainus Theatre to hold fundraising golf tournament

Brodeur, Pascall to host June 21 event in support of live theatre

The Chemainus Theatre Festival is set to host its first fundraising golf tournament on Saturday, June 21, with proceeds supporting professional live theatre on Vancouver Island.

The event will take place at Mount Brenton Golf Course with registration at 11:30 a.m. and a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start. A cocktail hour, dinner and both silent and live auctions will follow at the Chemainus Theatre’s Playbill Dining Room.

Organizers have set a fundraising goal of $10,000 to support the Chemainus Theatre Festival’s ongoing programming.

Former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Richard “King” Brodeur and veteran BCTV sports reporter Bernie Pascall will host the evening portion.

Brodeur has also contributed unique experience packages for attendees to bid on.

“We have several amazing silent auction items, but the live auction will feature Canucks alumni box seats with four tickets to a game, plus return Helijet tickets for four and a French chef dinner for eight, with Richard Brodeur preparing, serving and cleaning up after a six-course dinner,” said Michelle Vogelgesang, the theatre’s marketing and sales director.

Brodeur has been a longtime supporter of the Chemainus Theatre Festival and has participated in several of its fundraising events. He has also been a featured artist in the theatre’s lobby gallery several times over the years.

“He is always open to helping the theatre, and has donated several original art pieces to previous auctions,” Vogelgesang said. “He didn’t hesitate to help out with this golf tournament.”

Brodeur invited Pascall to co-host the event. Vogelgesang said both men have expressed how happy they are to be a part of this theatre fundraiser.

Organizers hope the event will become an annual tradition in support of Vancouver Island’s vibrant arts scene.

Registration is $150 per golfer or $600 per team.
