Celebrating fishing is an annual family affair across B.C.
In Greater Victoria, families can head to the Victoria Fish and Game Club on the Malahat for Father’s Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Family Fishing Weekend offers folks an opportunity to find outdoor adventure in their own backyard, and possibly develop a lifelong passion for freshwater fishing.
“More British Columbians are planning summer adventures at home and looking to discover amazing experiences in the province. Family Fishing Weekend is a great place to start, or continue, that exploration,” said Stacy Webb, director of marketing and communications for the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC. “Fishing is something you can enjoy in every part of the province and in urban and rural settings.”
Events from the June 13 to 15 weekend welcome anglers of all experience levels. During the weekend, licence requirements for both fresh and saltwater fishing are waived, eliminating the financial barrier to participation. While Canadian residents are permitted to fish license-free over the three days, some requirements remain in effect.
Five other Island events run in Ladysmith, Chemainus, Cowichan, Gold River and Comox Lake.
