Food will be served up to try to raise money for high school grads in Nanaimo this weekend.
Nanaimo Battle of the Food Trucks goes 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the old Sears parking lot at Nanaimo North Town Centre, all to benefit Nanaimo Dry Grad, an alcohol- drug-free celebration for the Class of 2025.
Danielle Hartwick, Nanaimo Dry Grad fundraising chairperson and event organizer, said approximately 28 food truck vendors have been assembled thus far, and entry fees go directly to Dry Grad. The "battle" involves customers voting for best entree, best service, best dessert, etc., and people can suggest other categories via the Battle of the Food Trucks Facebook page. There will be a silent auction and raffle as well.
"It's completely free to show up; it's free to vote," said Hartwick.
Food trucks can still enter the battle, provided they sign up before Thursday, May 1, and are based between Ladysmith and Parksville.
Nanaimo Dry Grad takes place June 20 at Beban Park recreation complex from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. and sponsors and prizes are still sought.
