It was a time for hopping in your Trans-Am and heading down to the old Tillicum drive-in, Led Zeppelin's Kashmir blaring on the 8-track. It was 1975, and it was also a time when Spectrum Community School welcomed its first students.
Spectrum is now welcoming the community to celebrate the school’s 50th anniversary this Friday, May 30, at 957 West Burnside Rd. Free tickets are available to RSVP.
From 6 to 10 p.m., attendees will have a chance to reconnect with former classmates and teachers, share stories, celebrate together, and honour the school’s history on Lekwungen land, as it was established in 1974 for the 1974-1975 school year as a replacement for Mount View High School (established in 1932).
“This is a great opportunity for alumni to reconnect,” says Dave Goossen, chair of the Spectrum/Mount View Alumni Association. “The new gym will be full of images and memorabilia for attendees to enjoy from Spectrum's five decades, in addition to the Mount View High years. We are looking forward to celebrating this milestone together.”
Attendees are invited to walk through the school’s event spaces, browse historical photos and yearbooks, enter a 50/50 draw, bid on silent auction items, and more.
“The Spectrum/Mount View Alumni Association, alongside our staff, students, and parent volunteers, has done an extraordinary job at creating engaging spaces throughout the school,” said Spectrum Community School principal Aaron Norris. “The event is sure to spark old memories and create new ones as we celebrate 50 years of education.”
