Once again Canada Day kicks off with the Nelson Lions Pancake Breakfast!
Beginning at 8 a.m. July 1 and running until 11 a.m., we will once again take over the 500 block of Baker Street for our annual Canada Day Pancake Breakfast fundraiser.
Enjoy pancakes, sausages, coffee, juice and more before you head to Lakeside Park for a day of exciting festivities.
A seasoned flipper, Bill Brown will celebrate 50 years of Lions service next year. Along with Arn Erickson and Rose Burgess, our longest-serving members have helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for our community, and inspire the rest of us with their tireless energy, dedication and experience.
Bill’s daughter Pennie carries on the Lions tradition, and we are excited to announce that the next generation will have an opportunity to join a brand new Leo Club at L.V Rogers this fall.
Leo Clubs are youth-led organizations under Lions Clubs International, providing young people with opportunities to develop leadership skills, engage in community service, and contribute to society. Contact us if your high-schooler is curious about becoming a founding member!
Canada Day Pancakes has been a beloved fundraiser here in Nelson for over 50 years, supporting community initiatives such as local student bursaries, our Community Grants program, sight and hearing programs for seniors, support for local charities, and contributions to Lions International projects globally.
The 500 block of Baker Street will be closed to traffic and we encourage you to bring your own plates, mugs and cutlery if possible to help us reduce waste. We ask for a minimum donation of $10 for adults, and $5 for kids, cash or card. Additional donations are welcome, with our thanks.
We are grateful to Brad and crew of Cantina Del Centro for use of their kitchen, David Havemann and Selkirk College’s culinary students for their expertise, the Nelson Pilots Association for donating their grills, Oso Negro Coffee and Safeway for their contributions, and of course the businesses on Baker Street, the City of Nelson, the Nelson Star, the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club and all the other volunteers and businesses that make this event possible.
Most of all we thank our fellow Nelsonites and neighbouring communities for your ongoing support of all our fundraising projects and efforts.
If you are curious about becoming more involved in your community, why not consider being a guest at our club’s monthly evening meetings? They're held on the first Tuesday of each month, starting anew in September. For more information and contact details, visit us at nelsonlions.ca.
