The Abbotsford Police Department is warning of a scam involving fake goods in local parking lots and on roadsides.

The Abbotsford Police Department is warning of two men and two women operating a fake goods scam in parking lots and on roadsides.

According to a social media post on Tuesday (June 17), police have received multiple reports about fraudulent transactions from the four people over the past several days.

“These individuals have been operating various rental vehicles and attempting to carry out fraudulent transactions across the city,” the department said.

Police say the scammers usually make their approach in public parking lots or on the roadside, offering to sell gold jewelry or perfume at significantly discounted prices.  One resident was offered a counterfeit iPhone and Rolex watch in a recent reported incident, police say.

“In each case, the items being sold are fake and hold no real value. The suspects often claim to be in financial distress or out of money and needing to return home, using this narrative to gain sympathy and manipulate potential victims,” the post reads.

A variety of counterfeit items have been seized, and an investigation is ongoing.

Abbotsford police advise residents to stay vigilant and to report suspicious activity of this nature immediately.
