Two people were taken to hospital after a crash caused by a wrong-way driver on Highway 1 in Saanich the evening of Thursday, May 1.

A driver going the wrong way resulted in a multi-vehicle crash that left two drivers hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, Saanich police told the Saanich News.

The driver of the vehicle travelling the wrong way also sustained injuries and is still in the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

"The investigation continues and our Traffic Safety Unit and Collision Analysts continue to determine why, and how this happened," Insp. Damian Kowalewich said. "We extend our gratitude to Saanich fire and BC Ambulance for their prompt and professional care provided to everyone at the scene."

The driver was arrested and released with conditions, including a prohibition from occupying the driver seat of any vehicle.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or have video of the area near the Admirals Road exchange that day around 9 to 9:10 p.m. on May 1, to contact MajorCrime@SaanichPolice.ca
