Re: 'Burnout fallout' (PQB News, July 2)
Undeniably, 'Hot August Nights' in Reno, Nevada is one of the biggest, well-known classic car shows in the world, a fabulous show which this writer and husband (a former street rodder) have attended numerous times.
Under their event organizers’ rules of operation, management reserves the right to restrict entrants to acceptable behaviour during any and all activities over the period. “Objectionable behaviour” amongst other things includes “unnecessary tirespin”, for which his/her vehicle will be subject to eviction from the events.
From recollection, this ongoing issue of burnouts related to the Seaside Cruizers cruise night is brought up in the newspaper every year.
Perhaps adopting the Hot August Nights example is how to best deal with the minor number of entrants who display unacceptable behaviour doing burnouts on our roads.
Up to the organizers to arrange how this can be executed, and for participants to know the consequences well in advance, perhaps with their entry form to the Father’s Day Show and Shine, not just in papers handed out to drivers showing the route.
