Chemainus Classical Concerts will kick off 2025 with a stirring performance titled Post-Romantic Palette on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church. The performance will feature renowned duo Catherine Ordronneau on piano and Kai Gleusteen on violin.
The concert promises to captivate audiences with the duo's celebrated interpretations highlighted by a performance of Sonata for Violin and Piano by César Franck.
Ordronneau and Gleusteen first joined forces in 1999 and have since cemented their reputation as one of the foremost duos performing sonatas for violin and piano. Known for their exceptional unity and emotional depth, their performances demonstrate a rare musical synergy.
With more than 100 recitals performed across Europe, Canada and the United States, the duo has garnered international acclaim. They were featured in the Canadian television program Classical Now as well as a two-hour CBC Radio broadcast which included a live recital. Their debut recording received high praise, particularly for a standout interpretation of Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata.
Calgary-born Gleusteen began playing violin at the age of five, achieving early success in international competitions and training under distinguished mentors. His storied career spans solo performances, leadership roles in orchestras across Europe, and the founding of the Gran Teatre del Liceu Chamber Orchestra in Barcelona.
Ordronneau gave her first recital at age 12 and took an unconventional path to her musical career, choosing music after two years of law school. A graduate of Paris’s prestigious École Normale Alfred Cortot, her thoughtful and historically grounded approach to the repertoire has made her a sought-after soloist and chamber musician in Europe and North America.
The Post-Romantic Palette concert will showcase the duo’s artistry and dynamic partnership, setting a high note for the year ahead.
