It got cold in Bella Coola Valley the second week of January due to an Artic Outflow.

Temperatures dipped down to as low as -19.7 C on Friday, Jan. 12.

Undaunted, valley resident Lexi Gunderson took time to snap a photograph of Bolt, the family’s new Limousin calf, wearing a blue blanket.

“The blanket is from Beaver Valley Feeds in Williams Lake,” Gunderson said through messenger. “He was born on Jan. 7, my dad’s birthday!”

The Gundersons chose the name Bolt because the calf’s mom’s name is Lightning, she noted.

On Jan. 7 it was - 3 C, and then it started getting colder as the week unfolded.

Thursday, Jan. 11 it dipped down to -17.9 C.

The low of -19.7C on Jan. 12 broke the record of -18.6 C set in 2007, with those records kept since 1984.

Schools in the district and the college were closed on Friday due to the weather as well.
