Remuneration totals paid to Chilliwack mayor and council in 2024 were released by City of Chilliwack ahead of the June 17 meeting.
Mayor Ken Popove earned $139,807 in remuneration, compared to $134,559 in 2023, with his expenses listed at $1,949, according to the document.
The mayor's basic pay went up by 3.9 per cent.
The six city councillors were paid a basic rate of $51,275 each last year, which also represented a 3.9 per cent increase year over year from 2023, when the pay was $49,350 each. A city councillor position is considered a part-time job.
The councillor remuneration totals do not include payments for their time spent as acting mayor, or mileage reimbursements for example, which were separate.
Coun. Bud Mercer listed $4,579 in expenses last year, which was the highest total among councillors, while Coun. Nicole Read was on the lower end with $1,168 reimbursed in 2024.
City officials release these pay details every year "as per Section 168 of the Community Charter, and the Financial Information Act," for which municipalities are required to prepare, "a schedule document that lists the remuneration and expenses paid to each member of council for that year," according to the report.
The schedule lists council's total remuneration, mileage and expenses.
