The Castlegar Curling Club is fundraising to help with the costs of replacing the club's roof.

Club president Myron Nichols says the organization knew a roof replacement on the aging building would be needed in a few years, but leaks this winter moved the project up to urgent status.

Work has already started on the $200,000 project.

The club had been saving money towards the roof, so some of the funding was in place, but the club has turned to grants and donations to try to fill in the gap.

Columbia Basin Trust, Kootenay Savings Credit Union and the Regional District of Central Kootenay have all supplied grants totalling about $50,000. Another $40,000 has come in through donations through a fundraiser set up with the the BC Amateur Sport Fund.

The club still needs to raise another $50,000 to cover the costs and avoid going into debt to complete the project.

If you would like to help, donations can still be made through the BC Amateur Sport Fund at support.bcamateursportfund.org/P0559. Just make sure you have selected the Castlegar Curling Club roof project. These donations are eligible for tax receipts.
