If funding is secured benches will be installed along the roadway between the harbour and the Bella Coola townsite.

During the regular board meeting Thursday, Jan. 26, the Central Coast Regional District unanimously approved an application to the Northern Development Initiative Trust and seeking approval from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure to install the benches.

In a report prepared for the board, community economic development officer Patrick Earl said the request for the benches came from Director Jim Ward.

“This would enhance the active transportation infrastructure and quality of life for residents within the region,” the report noted.

Northern Development Initiative Trust’s Community Places grant would cover 70 per cent of the costs up to $30,000.

The funding would support the permit costs, bench acquisition, or construction and installation.

Earl said other grants would also be sought to cover project costs.

“Additionally, funding could also come from the Bella Coola Valley Parks and Recreation budget if needed.”
