The application is now open to apply for a grant for a neighbourhood event in Central Saanich.

The District of Central Saanich is now accepting applications for its highly successful Meet Your Street grant program, designed to foster community spirit and emergency preparedness among neighbours.

Now in its third year, the program provides funding to support neighbourhood events that strengthen local connections, with a particular emphasis this year on emergency preparedness, wildfire awareness and community safety.

The initiative offers approximately $250 per event, enabling neighbourhoods to organize block parties, host presentations, enjoy live music and more.

The core objective is to bring neighbours together, facilitating connections and collaborative emergency planning.

"Feeling connected to your neighbours and community is such a vital ingredient for a healthy, fulfilling life and we’re delighted to be able to encourage that here in Central Saanich," said Mayor Ryan Windsor.

He highlighted the success of last year's program and expressed hope for continued focus on emergency preparedness.

Lisa Banfield, the district’s emergency program manager, stresses the critical role of neighbourly connections during crises.

The program aims to support neighbourhoods in creating emergency contact lists, assembling emergency kits, and facilitating FireSmart presentations.

Eight grants are available on a first-come, first-served basis from May 1 to Oct. 1. Applicants should allow four weeks for review and provide a short summary within 15 days of the event.
