Chase residents will hear less from council members at meetings with a new motion to remove their regular reports from the agenda.
At the June 10 meeting, Coun. Dan Stevens recommended a proposed amendment to council procedure bylaw to remove council reports as a standing item on regular meeting agendas, and that written updates may be submitted by councillors at their discretion.
“I just wanted to say that I agree... like it kind of takes up a lot of time in a meeting for us to give our reports,” Coun. Jane Herman said, adding that maybe they could submit written quarterly reports instead. “I just thought it’s sometimes kind of laborious to listen to all of the stuff we do.”
While Mayor David Lepsoe did “like where you’re going,” with the motion, his one concern was that as they all sit on different committees, how would that information get reported back to council? Coun. Colin Connett, however, noted the current brevity of those reports.
“All you’re saying is I went to a meeting over here. I mean, you’re not bringing out any report, so what’s the big deal?” he said. “I’m all for what Dan says, just don’t need to write a book.”
In response to the concern about committee reports, Stevens reiterated the second part of the motion that council may submit written updates to be included on the agenda "at their discretion.”
“I like that, because it’s then in the report so people that get the agenda... they can read it themselves and we don’t spend the time.
