City council will consider awarding the 2025 Asphalt Rehabilitation tender to Grandview Blacktop Ltd this week.
There were three paving companies vying for the annual road rehab contract: Grandview Paving, B.A. Blacktop and All Roads Construction.
Grandview emerged with the low bid, and council is set to decide on the contract award at the afternoon session of the June 17 meeting at city hall.
The base works for 2025 are focused on four paving projects: South Sumas Road from Chadsey Road West to end of pavement; Garden Drive from Charles Street to First Avenue; Prairie Central Road from Banford Road to Gibson Road, and Boundary Road from No.3 Road to No.2 Road.
The provisional work for 2025 comprises Mercer Road from McMillan Road to the road, and McMillian Road from Mercer Road to the south end of the road.
"Each year the City of Chilliwack tenders asphalt rehabilitation work for various roads to maintain the driving surface and reduce maintenance costs," according to the staff report.
"The Engineering Department prioritizes rehabilitation of roads based on an independent condition survey which is updated every five years. A comprehensive survey was completed by Stantec in August 2023."
A decision to award the tender to the low bidder is required at the council meeting.
The road rehab of $2.2 million is part of the larger road rehabilitation budget of $4.7 million including funds set aside for railway crossing rehabilitation and geotechnical road reinforcements.
"The remaining budget will be allocated to consulting services for next years program, road rehabilitation items that arise throughout the year and extra paving as needed to coordinate with land development or capital works."
In terms of substantiation, the staff report states: "Grandview Paving has met the requirements to qualify for contract award. They have significant experience in the local construction and paving industry.
"They have previously performed small scale road paving for the City of Chilliwack on several occasions and staff have been satisfied with their performance and customer service."
