Once again Bella Coola Valley Tourism invites everyone to a community-wide cleanup, this time on Saturday, April 20 in advance of Earth Day.
Anyone wanting to participate is asked to attend the Bella Coola Valley Tourism Visitor Information Officer parked beside the Kopas Store downtown.
Starting at 10 a.m., there will be gloves and bags available, a free barbecue from noon to 2 p.m., a raffle and some cash prizes.
Jen Sherlock, a member of the BCVTA board of directors, said they are expecting a big turnout this year.
“This year we are hoping that by moving the date up earlier to coincide with Earth Day will get even more folks excited,” Sherlock said. “We look forward to seeing everyone at the free barbecue and letting everyone explore our new Visitor Information Trailer if they didn’t get a chance to pop by last season.”
Sherlock said they are grateful for the support of the Central Coast Regional District for the event thankful to the Bella Coola Valley Tourism volunteers for making it happen.
It was April 22, 1970 when the first Earth Day was celebrated.
Since then more than one billion people participate annually on that day and other days to protect the planet.
