A Saanich school is on alert after a cougar was spotted Thursday afternoon (June 12).
Saanich police report a student spotted a cougar near Doncaster Elementary at around 1 p.m. The cougar was observed in the wooded area east of the Rowan Street school, near Thistle Street and Cedar Avenue.
BC Conservation has been made aware of the sighting.
This is the latest of several cougar sightings in the past month around Greater Victoria.
A cougar was spotted May 29 near Glenlyon Norfolk School on the 800-block of Bank Street in Victoria. A juvenile cougar was captured in a Sidney neighbourhood May 22 after it was spotted at a cul-de-sac in Grover Crescent by Roberts Bay. A cougar was observed exhibiting "concerning" behaviour on the 3800-block of Rowland Avenue in Saanich May 14. Another cougar sighting was reported May 23 in the 4200-block of Cedar Hill Road May 23.
