The City of Parksville will help cover the cost associated with a fundraiser for Ballenas Secondary School's dry grad celebration.

Council received a letter from the Ballenas 2025 Dry Grad Committee, asking for assistance securing the Jensen Centre as a venue for the event which will include a dance.

Acting mayor Mary Beil made a motion that council approve a one-time grant of $500 from council contingency to assist with rental costs for the Jensen Centre.

Council wasn't clear, based on the letter, how long the event would need to rent the space for. The cost for a full day is approximately $1,100, according to Keeva Kehler, chief administrative officer.

Jensen Place is owned by the city, which has an operating agreement with BGC Central Vancouver Island.

The funds raised will help cover the cost of food, decorations, storage rentals, entertainment and prizes at Ballenas dry grad celebration.

Council voted unanimously to provide the one-time grant.
