Parksville council passed final adoption of an official community plan amendment and a zoning and development amendment bylaw during its Feb. 3 meeting.

The affordable housing project, to be located at 1225 Franklin's Gull Rd., is intended to help with workforce housing.

Council gave third reading to the project in December, which followed a public hearing in November.

The project will see a four-storey, 36-unit non-market rental apartment building constructed at the corner of Franklin's Gull Road and the old Island Highway.

The zoning will be changed from Community Use and tourist commercial to Multi-Unit Residential in the OCP.

Parksville Lions Housing Society said at a previous council meeting that it intends to respond to the next Community Housing Fund program proposal call by BC Housing this year.
