Osoyoos is hosting tiger dam training at the end of the month.
The town, along with the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen (RDOS), regional municipalities and local First Nations, will be putting on the flood mitigation equipment drill on Sunday, March 30 at Gyro Park. The training exercise will familiarize first responders, public works crews and utility workers with how to install tiger dams whenever there is a threat of flooding.
Members of the public are welcome to observe the exercise but are asked to stay on the beach in front of the Watermark Resort, away from the training area.
Earlier this year, the Town of Osoyoos, Village of Keremeos, RDOS and Lower Similkameen Indian Band were awarded a $600,000 grant as part of a joint effort for tiger dams and two transport trailers from the Union of BC Municipalities Community Emergency Preparedness Fund.
