The City of Campbell River has pushed the reopening date of Discovery Pier to June, with the southern portion reopening on May 24.

The reopening of Discovery Pier in Campbell River has been delayed due weather conditions, material availability, and unforeseen additional repairs.

In a media release on May 15, the City of Campbell River said the popular pier will remain temporarily closed to the public while structural repair work to improve its condition continues past the previously announced reopening date.

The pier was originally supposed to partially reopen on May 16 and fully reopen by May 30. However, unforeseen challenges have impacted the project schedule.

The southern portion of the pier (where the concession stand is located) is now projected to reopen on May 24. The pier should be fully reopen by late June 2025, depending on tides, weather and if any additional repairs are required, the city says.

The city is urging the public to continue to follow all signage and safety measures. It thanked the public for the continued patience and cooperation while these essentials repairs are made, which aim to address wear and tear while ensuring the safety and longevity of the pier.
