Among Greater Victoria's invasive species is Daphne laureola, a perennial evergreen shrub native to Eurasia and northern Africa.

The District of Saanich is encouraging neighbourhood groups to apply for $500 community grants through its Neighbour to Neighbour Resilience Initiative.

Launched in 2022, the initiative aims to connect neighbours, strengthen community resilience, promote climate action, emergency preparedness and nature conservation.

Groups can apply with a project idea or participate in a workshop series with Saanich staff to co-develop a plan. Once the workshops are completed, the group becomes eligible to apply for funding.

Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and must meet the program's criteria.

Previous projects have ranged from invasive species removal in Mystic Vale to a sustainable living home tour in the Quadra Cedar Hill area. Others have included neighbourhood events on Camelot Road, where residents hosted educational sessions on climate science, emergency preparedness, native plants, and held a plant identification scavenger hunt in Haro Woods.
