On the Monday of May long weekend, the mild and rainy weather that has blanketed B.C.'s interior has turned to wet snow near highway summits.

Drive B.C. and Environment Canada have released highway alerts for people travelling on the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5) from Hope to Merrit and Merrit to Kamloops, the Connector (Hwy 97C) from Merrit to Kelowna, and Highway 3, from Hope to Princeton.

Environment Canada is alerting the public that a pacific front is approaching southwestern BC on Monday May 19. Wet snow is expected on highway summits. Snowfall accumulations may amount to 5 cm. The snowfall will likely turn to rain later in the day, and will return to freezing in the evening.

Wet snow will begin near Kootenay Pass pass on Monday May 19, and is expected to continue through Tuesday.

Drivers are urged to slow down, maintain a safe following distance and adjust behaviour on the roads as weather conditions – particularly at high elevations – may change quickly.

Up to date road conditions are available at drivebc.ca.
