An Oscar-winning film that examines the destruction of Palestinian homes and land will be screened in Kelowna this long weekend.
No Other Land won the best documentary feature film at the 97th Academy Awards in March. It showcases the ongoing destruction of Masafer Yatta, a cluster of villages located in the southern West Bank of Palestine. The film tells the intertwined stories of an Israeli journalist and a Palestinian activist as they document the Israeli military's destruction of Palestinian homes and land.
The screening will be held at the Central Okanagan Community Church (721 Bernard Avenue) on Monday, May 19 at 6:30 p.m. It is hosted by the Canadian for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) Okanagan chapter.
In late March, the co-director of the film Hamdan Ballal was attacked by Israeli settlers at his home in the West Bank. He was also detained by Israel Defense Forces, before being released. The film explores themes of resistance, hope, and the enduring Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the lens of personal relationships and daily life.
