New construction is coming to Sooke Road as the CRD gears up to replace a water main.
“This project is a critical investment in the long-term sustainability of the water infrastructure, ensuring safe and reliable service for residents while helping to prevent further disruptions,” the District of Sooke stated in a news release.
Construction will take place on Sooke Road (Highway 14) between Phillips Road and Church Road. Crews are expected to begin mobilizing at the site on Monday, April 7, using the Ministry of Transportation and Transit (MoTT) right-of-way near the SEAPARC sign on Sooke Road, to store materials and equipment.
Traffic control measures will be in place throughout the project's duration. Between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., two lanes of traffic will be maintained through a lane shift. During night work hours, 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., traffic will be reduced to single-lane alternating. There will be a potential pause in construction between 5 and 7 p.m.
The project's contract was awarded to Stone Pacific Contracting Limited, which will conduct the replacement. Residents will receive letters detailing updates provided directly by the CRD and Stone Pacific Contracting.
“Recognizing the impact this work will have on the Sooke Region Museum and Visitor Information Centre Night Market, District staff are working with their team to support this valued community event,” stated the district. “Similarly, some events occurring at SEAPARC Recreation Centre, which typically use the MoTT right of way by the SEAPARC digital sign for overflow parking, may need to adapt.”
Journey Middle School will be available for parking on weekends and evenings.
