This week's anticipated rainfall has led to the cancellation of the slope monitoring warning that had been issued by the Lower Similkameen Indian Band (LSIB).
On April 21, LSIB announced that the 24-hour precipitation forecast was under the thresholds for the issued warnings for both ʔaysnúlaʔxʷ (Ashnola, the West Zone) and the c̓up̓áq̓ (Chopaka, the East Zone), specifically in the Ewart, Crater, Webster, Red Bridge and Lakeview Creek areas, effectively ending the warnings as of 6:15 p.m. last night. LSIB issued the warnings on April 20 for the next two days after the system provided a warning for incoming precipitation that was scheduled to arrive on Easter Monday morning.
Slopes are still vulnerable to movement after rainfall, as the moisture will take time to be absorbed into the ground. However, LSIB has stated that it has not received any concerning calls regarding any of the areas, and thanks the community for their help in keeping the areas safe for everyone.
"Thank you for your vigilance, patience and efforts in making sure that all areas remain safely under watch from the sməlqmíx and our neighbours," LSIB stated.
LSIB will provide updates on its Facebook page if conditions change and another slope monitoring system issues another warning or alert.
