A series of Lantzville beach ends are closed for swimming, following tests showing concerning levels of bacteria.

The closure, impacting Benwaldun, Harper and Sebastion Road beach ends, was announced this week after tests show a dangerous level of enterococci – a bacteriological indicator of fecal contamination.

Beach advisories may be considered when a single sample exceeds 400 E.coli or 70 enterococci per 100 millilitre sample. During the closure, Island Health advises people to avoid water contact in the impacted areas.

Signs have been posted by the District of Lantzville, informing people the beach ends are closed until further notice.
