Mounties hope to reunite an e-bike with its rightful owner after they confiscated it from a man who was riding it in Nanaimo’s south end.
Officers with Nanaimo RCMP’s special investigations unit were on patrol on Nicol Street on June 19 when they spotted an individual with whom they were acquainted riding an e-bike. The officers were concerned the bike did not belong to the rider, and by the time the officers turned around, a different person was riding the same bicycle.
"When they stopped to make inquires about the bike, the male said he had no idea who the bike belonged to and was just taking it for a ride," noted an RCMP press release.
At that point the officers seized the black Hover-1 e-bike and have now secured it at the detachment.
Police have not been able to identify the bike's owner as it was not reported stolen, nor registered with Project Garage 529. The bike will be stored at the detachment for 90 days. To claim the bike, proof of purchase and serial number will be required.
