Every day we can find examples of people in Nanaimo showing their love for the city – here’s another opportunity to share the love.
Best of the City is back. The Nanaimo News Bulletin’s annual survey is now live on our website at www.nanaimobulletin.com/contests. For readers who may be new to the community, Best of the City surveys readers on their favourite things about Nanaimo: the best places to eat and drink, the best shops and service, and the best things to see and do. At the end of the summer, once all the votes are counted, we compile the list of winners and runners-up into a magazine trumpeting the best of the best.
This year, we’re doing things a little differently. We’ve heard in the past that our 150-plus-category survey requires an ever-increasing time commitment from readers. (We just can’t help ourselves from continually adding new categories.)
So for the first time, we’re introducing a Best of the City nomination period. Now, readers have two weeks to nominate their favourites, and after that, only the top five nominees in each category will advance to final voting. It will save voters from having to navigate unwieldy lists of finalists, which we hope will ultimately make the process more user-friendly.
But it also adds some pressure: businesses need to ‘get out the vote’ twice, hoping for lots of nominations and then lots of votes, too. We hope this change creates some additional excitement and builds anticipation for Best of the City.
Nominations are now open, and close July 22, with final voting starting July 25. Survey participants have a chance to win a $250 gas card courtesy Mid Island Co-op.
Thanks to everyone who fills out the survey, spreads the word, and shares some of the best things about living in Nanaimo.
