Oceanside RCMP deal with vandals, firebugs and thieves

Vandals, prowlers and more continue to keep police busy in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area.

During the time period of May 26 to June 8, Oceanside RCMP received 560 complaints. Some of the incidents, according to a press release, included: 

On May 26, an unregistered green colour Kawasaki dirt bike was reported stolen in the 2000 block of Roberts Road in Nanoose Bay, on May 26. Two days later, an unattended fire was reported on the beach with the two individuals responsible identified in the 100 block of Beachside Drive in Parksville, on May 28. On May 29, a JBL Bluetooth speaker was reported stolen from a vehicle parked at Morison Avenue and McMillian Street in Parksville. The same day, a pink Rose speaker, MS Surface laptop and a pair of black Beats headphones were reported stolen from a residence in the 800 block of Tanya Road in Errington.

On May 30, a vehicle was reported vandalized with motor oil sprayed on the exterior surface in the area of Temple Street and Pym Street in Parksville. Two days later,  a pair of vehicles were reported vandalized overnight with a storage yard fence damaged and a damage to door handles in the 900 block of Fairdowne Road in Parksville. Also June 2, a nighttime break-and-enter was reported at a construction site with a Dewalt jackhammer, red Skilsaw and Dewalt batteries missing at Rainbow Way and Amity Way in Parksville. Two vehicles were reported vandalized in the 5500 block of Island highway West in Qualicum Beach on June 2.

A trailer was reported vandalized, with a damage to a patio door in the 2600 block of Turnbull Road, Spider Lake, in Qualicum Beach on June 3. The next day, a daytime residential break-and-enter was reported in the 300 block of Craig Street in Parksville but nothing was reported missing. On June 5, 400 feet of aluminum railing was reported stolen from a job site in the 400 block of Crescent Road West in Qualicum Beach.

On June 6, an unlocked dark blue e-bike with two batteries was reported stolen in the 200 block of Dogwood Street in Parksville. A male suspect was captured on surveillance video pushing the bike away. The next day, a nighttime fire was reported at the new skateboard park in the 700 block of Jones Street in Qualicum Beach. A vehicle was reported stolen from a used vehicle lot with damage to the compound fencing in the 900 block of Fairdowne Road in Parksville on June 6. and the vehicle was recovered by Oceanside RCMP on June 10.

On June 8, a nighttime prowler was reported in a business storage yard on Fern Road East in Qualicum Beach. No items were reported missing.

Found: An abandoned electric mobility scooter was found along Highway 19A and Roscow Street in Parksville on May 29th. Contact Oceanside RCMP during regular business hours to claim, quoting file number 2025-5172.
