Panorama Recreation has taken over operations of the facilities at Centennial Park in the 7500 block of Wallace Drive in Saanichton.
Beginning March 1, reservations for the three picnic shelters and the 635-square-foot indoor fieldhouse will be handled by the centre.
Capital Regional District says because of the ongoing construction of the multi-sport box adjacent to the park, facilities will not be available for rent until Mar. 1 to ensure public safety.
In June 2022, the District of Central Saanich asked the Peninsula Recreation Commission to take over the construction of the multi-sport box, which would also be available for use by residents of North Saanich, Sidney and local First Nations.
Construction of the new facility, on the district's 40-year-old lacrosse box site, started late in the summer of 2024 and is expected to be completed this spring.
The 17,000-square-foot Centennial Multi-Sport Box will function as a weatherproof, year-round outdoor recreation facility.
According to CRD, the foundation and footings for every board and roof structure are finished.
"Backfilling is being completed and the site will be turned over to the roofing installers in February. Once the roof structure is complete, the site will be turned back over for the installation of boards and surfacing," CRD said.
Meanwhile, bookings for sports fields, tennis/pickleball courts and the Brentwood performance stage will not change.
Rental requests for the spring/summer season (March 1 through Aug. 31) can be submitted at www.crd.bc.ca/panorama/locations-and-hours/centennial-park.
