Parksville Coun. Sean Wood has been presented with a special print in appreciation for his contributions to achieving a higher federal tax credit for volunteer firefighters and search-and-rescue volunteers.

Gord Johns, MP for Courtenay-Alberni, presented the print produced by Shauna Liora, a former 13-year search and rescue member, to Wood at the Sept. 4 council meeting.

"One of the best things about this is parties working together, non-partisan, to get stuff done because I think that's what has to happen, and divisiveness and partisan politics is not the future," Wood said.

Wood was a volunteer firefighter for five years in Parksville.

"Sean helped devise a petition, which I tabled in the House of Commons, and later an e-petition which garnered thousand of signatures, to show momentum and support for this brilliant idea to increase the firefighter, volunteer and search and rescue tax credit," Johns said.

Johns also thanked Wood for his work in advocating to the Union of B.C. Municipalities and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.

Bill C-310 was re-tabled on Dec. 8, 2022.
