Parksville Fire Rescue reminds residents that all open burning and outdoor fires, excluding cooking fires, are prohibited in the Parksville Fire Protection Area.
According to a news release, beach fires in the Parksville Qualicum Wildlife Management are also prohibited by provincial legislation; this includes all beaches from French Creek to Resort Drive.Bylaws affecting the Parksville Fire Protection Area may be viewed here:
City of Parksville: Bylaw No. 1428;
Regional District of Nanaimo: Bylaw No. 922 (burning in Parksville area);
Regional District of Nanaimo: Bylaw No. 920 (burning in French Creek area);
The sale of any type of fireworks is prohibited in the City of Parksville and all fireworks are banned within city limits. This includes the possession of consumer fireworks and they should not be purchased elsewhere and brought into the city.
According to the release, a person must not fire or discharge fireworks unless authorized by a permit (permits are only issued to applicants with a fireworks supervisor and/or pyrotechnics certification card as issued by Natural Resources Canada). The Parksville Fire Protection Area encompasses the City of Parksville and contract areas within the Regional District of Nanaimo which include San Pareil, Morningstar, Columbia Beach, French Creek, and the Fourneau Road, Wildgreen and Martindale Road areas as well as the Forever Green Estates.
