100 Mile House RCMP responded to 74 calls for service between May 21 and May 28, including Canada Post mailbox break-ins, stolen tools and an incident that took place between several youths riding their bikes and an unknown man on May 24.
Regarding the youths, Sgt. Brian Lamb said RCMP received a report of the youths riding their bikes in the wooded area along Easzee Drive and Kinncum Road in 108 Mile Ranch at 8 p.m. Lamb said that the youth encountered a man in his 30s with a dark-coloured beard, cowboy boots, blue jeans, a baseball cap and a hoodie who yelled at them and ran in their direction.
“The male was observed holding a dark-coloured object in his hand which was described as something that resembled a weapon,” Lamb said. “The youths fled and returned home where police were then notified.”
Lamb said that officers attended the area where the incident allegedly occurred and searched for the man but were unable to find anyone in the woods. The area in question is accessible through several points throughout the 108 Mile Ranch and the 105 Mile area. RCMP ask that anyone with further information regarding this incident contact them.
On May 21 officers received a report from Canada Post regarding theft from mailboxes in the 5000 block of Highway 24. Lamb said RCMP believe that sometime between May 17 and May 21 two of the mailboxes were broken into. It is unknown if any parcels were taken from the boxes.
Another instance of theft reportedly occurred on May 22 when RCMP received a report of a theft from a locked trailer parked in the area between Horse Lake Road and Blackstock Road. Lamb said the enclosed trailer was entered on an unknown date and several tools, including a laser level, were taken.
Later that week RCMP received a report of another theft of a tool from a residence located near Horse Lake Road and Birch Avenue. Sometime between the evening of May 23 and the morning of May 24, a saw was taken from the deck of the residence.
Lamb said RCMP also dealt with a few cases involving vehicles last week. This included an incident on May 23 when members of the B.C. Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle for a defect in a parking lot along Highway 97 near Exeter Station Road.
On speaking with the driver, RCMP said the man acknowledged he did not have a driver’s license. Officers confirmed he didn’t have a driver’s license and was also prohibited from driving. Officers arrested and later released the man at the scene, pending a later court date. The vehicle he was operating has been impounded.
On May 26, meanwhile, Lamb said officers were conducting general patrols in Lac La Hache along Highway 97 when they observed a vehicle travelling south. The RCMP believed it matched the description of one that had been stolen recently and after locating it arrested the man who had been driving it.
The vehicle and items within it, which Lamb said are also believed to have been stolen, were seized. The investigation into this event is ongoing.
Finally, on Monday, May 27 officers responded to reports of a break and enter to a residence in the 94 Mile area. Lamb said that sometime between 7 p.m. on Sunday and the morning of the report the residence, which was being renovated, was entered. An undisclosed number of tools and building supplies were reportedly taken.
