FortisBC says it is shutting off the power for hundreds of residents in southern B.C. over the next two days.
Equipment upgrades at the province's largest energy provider will trigger an outage for 500 customers east of Osoyoos, Mount Baldy, Bridesville and west of Rock Creek.
Power will be off on July 10 and 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
A FortisBC spokesperson said the outage is part of routine work to "maintain the electricity system" and not related to a Public Safety Power Shutoff, a measure taken by utility companies during extreme wildfire risk.
"The outage is required to allow crews to conduct priority equipment upgrades and help ensure continued reliability for local customers," an email from the energy provider reads.
"We recognize the inconvenience to our customers and appreciate their patience and understanding as we complete the work as quickly and safely as possible."
FortisBC customers are encouraged to view the provider's outage map at outages.fortisbc.com for updates.
