The weight room at Gordon Head Recreation Centre will close for about four months starting May 12 due to needed roof repairs.
In a written statement, Saanich says a persistent moisture issue between the ceiling and roof requires demolition, remediation and reconstruction work. While there are no current safety concerns, the facility must be shut during the repairs.
The closure applies to the weight room only. Programs in the auditorium, dance studio, multipurpose room and fitness annex will continue.
Pass holders and drop-in users are encouraged to visit other municipal facilities such as Saanich Commonwealth Place, Cedar Hill Recreation Centre and G.R. Pearkes Recreation Centre, which will remain open.
The district is asking residents to be patient as the other weight rooms may be busier than usual during this period. For updates and alternative programming, residents can visit saanich.ca
