The Town of Qualicum Beach is creating a master plan for the Qualicum Beach Airport.

Council has endorsed the allocation of $75,000 in the 2026 budget to finance the initiative that also includes a business plan. The decision was reached by council during last year's strategic planning.

To help finance the project, airport manager Kevin Goldfuss has been encouraged to apply to the British Columbia Airport Access Program, a provincial funding program geared towards improving and developing aviation infrastructure.

The BCAAP is now accepting grant applications from regional and municipal airports for safety, infrastructure and modernization project. Town staff informed council to take advantage of the opportunity.

CAO Lou Varela indicated if the town is successful in its application, it "would keep in timing with staff's anticipated workload for 2026."

Council approved staff recommendation to apply to the BCAAP for the master and business plan at the Qualicum Beach Airport. A letter will also be sent to BCAAP to support the project.
