Reserve money has been spent to purchase Cassidy’s first-ever community park.
In a press release, the Regional District of Nanaimo announced it has bought a 1,659-square metre parcel of land in the 3400 block of Hallberg Road in Cassidy, spending $420,000 in electoral Area A parks cash-in-lieu reserves from the 2024 budget.
The site was chosen due to its position in the neighbourhood, land profile and existing open space, the RDN said. Buildings currently on the land will be removed, the press release noted, and 2025 community works fund money will be spent on landscaping and amenities for the site.
Area residents will be able to offer feedback on a vision for the park, the press release stated.
Jessica Stanley, Area A director, said she was thrilled, as the park will enable Cassidy residents to enjoy the outdoor space and “connect with one another.”
“Access to green spaces and play areas is important for the health and well-being of residents of all ages and I look forward to seeing this park completed,” she said in the press release.
Information about public consultation with area residents will be announced in the fall.
