The theme of Local Government Awareness Week is 'infrastructure'.

This annual provincial initiative to build public awareness of local government roles and encourage participation in local government processes will be recognized May 11 to May 17.

According to a press release, the Regional District of Nanaimo is using the occasion to invite residents to learn about who is responsible for different infrastructure in the region. Infrastructure includes transportation, wastewater management and water supply.

You can visit Get Involved RDN page for information about infrastructure in the RDN as well as FAQs, videos and an online form to submit any questions you may have about the RDN in general.

All those who show their favourite place or space in the region by May 31 will be entered to win one of three great prizes. Choose from an RDN Recreation or Parks $100 gift certificate, two one-month passes for RDN Transit, a $100 credit on your next RDN utility bill (you must live in one of the RDN’s electoral areas to receive this prize) or a $100 gift certificate for a local restaurant or business.
