A special weather statement is in place for B.C.’s interior region Monday morning (Jan. 15), including communities such as 100 Mile House, Ashcroft, Clearwater and Barriere, while a snowfall warning has been issued for Quesnel and Williams Lake.

Environment Canada is forecasting snow for the interior starting Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.

“An arctic front will begin to sweep across the province from north to south, bringing periods of snow,” notes the statement, “At the same time, a Pacific low pressure system will approach the coast from the west. As the moisture from the Pacific system interacts with the cold front from the north, periods of heavy snow are expected, and snowfall warnings may be issued for some regions.”

Quesnel and Williams Lake could see between 10 and 20 cm of snow.

The snowfall warning is currently for Stuart - Nechako, Prince George, Cariboo - north including Quesnel, Yellowhead, and Yellowhead Highway - Tête Jaune Cache to the Alberta Border.

Environment Canada has highway alerts in place for the Yellowhead Highway, Coquihalla Highway Hope to Merritt and Merritt to Kamloops, Highway 97 Begbie Summit and the Pine Pass.
