The Regional District of Nanaimo is working to rectify the situation after some ratepayers were charged twice for utility payments.

In a press release, the RDN said some customers who pay bills with pre-authorized payment were "debited twice from residents' accounts due to a bank system error," and in an update Tuesday, July 8, the region said it is working with its bank to reverse the error.

"We have been advised that affected customers should start to see the reversal transactions in their accounts today and up to [Monday, July 14] depending on how quickly their own bank is able to respond," the press release noted.

The RDN apologizes for any inconvenience and asks affected residents to be patient as the issue is resolved. Further, anyone with questions is asked to call the RDN's finance department at 250-390-6528 or e-mail finance@rdn.bc.ca. If people can't get through, they are asked to leave a voicemail and the RDN will try to respond as quickly as possible.
