Summerland Middle School will hold an open house on June 18.
The open house, from 5 to 6:30 p.m., will be an opportunity for people to see the changes that have been made as the school transitions from a middle school to an elementary school for the upcoming school year.
In addition, there will be some Summerland Middle School memorabilia, such as old uniforms, available for purchase.
Summerland Middle School was officially opened on Jan. 17, 2000, for students from Grades 6 to 8.
Because of changes within the Okanagan Skaha School District, the school will be converted to Summerland Elementary School, a Kindergarten to Grade 6 facility, for the coming school year. Students from Grades 7 to 12 will attend Summerland Secondary School.
Giant’s Head Elementary School will be closing at the end of this school year.
The changes are coming as a result of low enrolment levels.
According to targets set in the Ministry of Education and Child Care’s facilities guidelines, schools should be at 95 per cent of capacity. Summerland’s schools are at 69 per cent of capacity.
