An investigation into drug trafficking at Greater Victoria group homes and detox centres has led to the arrest of a pair of youths.

The Saanich Police Street Crime Unit arrested a pair of males, aged 16 and 17, on May 6 with the assistance of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team. The arrests stemmed from an investigation launched April 29 into allegations that illegal drugs were being sold to youths in group homes and detox centres in the Capital Region.

The sales are suspected to have taken place inside numerous facilities in the region.

"That was the allegation that prompted the investigation," said Saanich Police communication advisor Jason Hallman, who wouldn't go into details of the specific allegations.

At the time of their arrest, the teens were in possession of approximately 17 grams of suspected fentanyl, some of which was pre-bagged for individual sales, three grams of suspected methamphetamine, and about 27 grams of cannabis.

Police are continuing the investigation and will be recommending charges to the Crown of possession for the purpose of trafficking. The youths have both been released from custody with conditions and are set to appear at a future court date.
