Sudden changes in Hedley Creek water levels may indicated upstream hazards such as debris buildup, landslides or potential blockages that could release unexpectedly.

The Upper Similkameen Indian Band (USIB) has issued a public safety notice for Hedley Creek.

On March 14, USIB released a statement urging the public to exercise caution around the creek, especially if the water flow slows or stops.

"Sudden changed in water levels may indicate upstream hazards such as debris buildup, landslides or potential blockages that could release unexpectedly," the statement read.

The band also stated a few safety measures, such as avoiding walking in the creek bed if water levels are low or dry, as conditions could change rapidly, staying alert for unstable terrain or signs of sudden water surges and reporting any unusual water changes in the water flow or visible hazards to USIB as soon as possible.

"Your awareness and caution help keep everyone safe," USIB stated. "Thank you for your cooperation."
