Victoria Police were at the corner of Cook and Richardson Streets, and multiple officers had their guns out at around 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, May 22.
The officers were outside an apartment building in the 1000-block of Richardson Street.
"VicPD officers and the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team (GVERT) are responding to a weapons call after reports that a man fired BB gun rounds at people in a tent encampment near Discovery Street and Blanshard Street. The suspect then departed in a vehicle," VicPD told Victoria News.
Richardson was closed off by police tape during the incident.
A Victoria News reporter on the scene saw GVERT officers outside, at least one police dog, and multiple police vehicles parked in the area. An ambulance arrived on the scene around 4:15 p.m.
The reporter on scene witnessed one person being arrested in front of another apartment building, about two blocks away, on Cook Street near the Fairfield Road intersection at around 4:34 p.m. It is unknown if the arrest is related to the police presence at 1050 Richardson.
The reporter saw a second person get arrested at the corner of Richardson Street and Cook Street around 4:40 p.m.
VicPD said a man and a woman were taken into custody and there is no concern for risk to the public. The incident is still under investigation.
As of 4:50 p.m., police cleared the scene and traffic has returned to normal.
