The Village of Keremeos issued a warning to residents to always give the village a call or email them after reports of a phone scam hitting the area.

According to the alert, the phone caller is using a number that displays as though it is coming from the village.

The nature of the information the scammer is seeking, or what they are claiming they want from residents was not shared.

Similar attempts to imitiate local governments have hit other communities in the region over the past few years, including in Penticton where scammers called demanding payment for utilities.

The Village of Keremeos advised residents not to give any personal information over the phone and to contact the village to verify any call, either by phoning 250-499-2711 or by emailing info@keremeos.ca

People are also invited to come to the municipal offices on 4th Street during the week to confirm in person.
