Cascadia Martial Arts recently concluded its six-week kickboxing challenge, a fierce competition that saw 60 dedicated participants burn a total of 558,276 calories.
Running from May 1 to June 12, this challenge featured six teams of 10 competitors, each a mix of men and women, pushing their limits to achieve a collective goal of 600,000 calories burned, according to a news release.
Participants equipped with fitness tracking devices monitored their calorie burn and heart rates throughout the challenge.
The competition's intensity led some to take two classes daily, maximizing their calorie expenditure. Each one-hour kickboxing class includes 12 minutes of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), seven combo rounds, three partner skill combo rounds and a cool-down stretch at the end.
Men burned between 600 and 1,100 calories per class, while women burned between 400 and 800 calories per class, reflecting differences in weight and muscle mass.
Despite falling short of the ambitious 600,000-calorie target, participants and organizers were thrilled with the results.
The collective effort, determination, and camaraderie fostered throughout the challenge left everyone feeling healthier and stronger.
