The Salmon Arm Yeti men’s rugby team clinched first place in the regular season over the weekend, locking in the home field advantage for the Okanagan Rugby Union final.
In a hard-fought match last Saturday, June 21, against the Vernon Jackals, both teams traded points in a fast-paced back-and-forth game.
The Jackals capitalized on solid goal kicking, but the Yeti answered with quick ball movement and speed on the outside, resulting in a 47-40 victory.
Jute Norlin of Salmon Arm had a standout performance, scoring five tries and earning Best Back honours. Mark Cull was named Best Forward, while Mitch Morrison and Aaron Hartling were recognized as Hardest Workers.
The Yeti will host the final at the J.L. Jackson Secondary field in Salmon Arm, with kickoff set for 2 p.m. The opponent will be determined in the upcoming match between Penticton Harlequins and Vernon Jackals.
A Yeti women’s exhibition game is also in the works to follow the men’s final.
